Once your dog understands mat work well inside, we can move it outside!

Please make sure that you pick an easy outdoor location for this.

It can even be your backyard or patio at first!

Because we increased the difficulty of one aspect of the behavior (location), we can make other aspects easier (such as the rate of reinforcement or how close we stay to the mat).

Remember that our main goal is always that the dog is successful and rehearses the correct behavior.
